Welcome to the Scout Island Website
The Fresno County Office of Education is excited to announce Scout Island Outdoor Education Center school programs for the 2009-2010 school year. Scout Island provides an interdisciplinary outdoor education experience for students focused on California academic content standards. This year, in addition to school field trips, Scout Island will be offering day camps for 5th and 6th grade students, a complete canoeing program, expeditions to Yosemite, the Central Coast , Friant Dam/Millerton Courthouse/San Joaquin River Fish Hatchery and the wetlands at Meyers Water Bank and Wildlife Project.
Scout Island school programs are affordable. Located at the North end of Van Ness Avenue in Fresno, Scout Island is a short driving distance from schools in the Fresno, Clovis and Central districts and a reasonable driving distance from rural districts. School field trip fees start at only $125.00. Camp fees average $20.00 per student for a two day camp. Field trips and camps can be arranged for a single class or an entire grade level.
Scout Island has experienced credentialed teachers on staff to assist you with planning and preparing your event and to guide learning experiences. You can choose an event planned and taught by your school staff or have Scout Island staff provide instruction. “Turn Key” field trips are available with Scout Island staff providing all instruction for your field trip or camp.
Last year Scout Island had a record number of events. For this reason I encourage you to plan your event well in advance and register as early as possible to reserve your space. Early registrations will receive a discounted price!
This year will be challenging for all schools and we will work with you to make an affordable and memorable outdoor learning experience for your school and students. Please review the school programs on this website and contact us if you have any questions. We look forward to seeing you at Scout Island!
