Scout Island Outdoor Education Center is conveniently located within Fresno City Limits on the San Joaquin River and provides eighty-five acres of invaluable habitat for native wildlife and for riverside vegetation. Scout Island offers teachers and students high-quality multi-grade level environmental education opportunities that expose participants to our many valuable resources of our preserved natural area. Year-round field trips are offered to explore the San Joaquin River Watershed, local geology, flora, fauna, and the cultural history in the riparian corridor of our river. At Scout Island, learners experience nature through hands-on activities specifically designed to meet California Education Standards and to enhance your school’s curriculum. Scout Island is under the direction of the Fresno County Office of Education.
